Results released by Harvard University show that making music and enacting stories improve thinking skills in children, says Education Week. The study investigated an earlier finding coined the “Mozart Effect” – listening to certain kinds of music that help the thinking process – but reported that the end product was found only in college students, and for only 15 minutes at most. The study concluded there was no evidence of a relation between the kinds of art studied and better test results. Critics of the project have deemed the results inconclusive, claiming that the range of results examined was not wide enough to give the full picture. They worried that the ultimate consequence of a report like that would make less significant the importance of the arts.
